Next Audition: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Auditions are walk up and will consist of cold readings from the script--monologues for George and Martha and dialogue for Nick and Honey. Actors who wish to be considered for the role of Martha are asked to sing 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" to the tune of "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" as Martha may have sung it at the party immediately before the action of the show. Please note that this is not a singing audition per se, but a chance to show some big character choices.
Due to the nature of the script, the production will include choreographed intimacy. Actors interested in the roles of Martha and Nick should be comfortable with staged contact and kissing within their scenes. Please note that there will be no intimacy requested in auditions.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
MARTHA – Stage age 50s “A large boisterous woman, looking somewhat younger; ample, but not fleshy”
GEORGE – Stage age late 40s “Her husband; thin, hair going gray”
HONEY – Stage age late 20s “a petite blond girl; rather plain”
NICK – Stage age late 20s “her husband; blond, well put-together, good-looking”

ABOUT THE SHOW:
George, a professor at a small college, and his wife, Martha, have just returned home, drunk from a Saturday night party. Martha announces, amidst general profanity, that she has invited a young couple – an opportunistic new professor at the college and his naïve new bride – to stop by for a nightcap. When they arrive the charade begins. The drinks flow and inhibitions melt. It becomes clear that Martha is determined to seduce the young professor, and George couldn’t care less. But underneath the edgy banter which engulfs both couples lurks an undercurrent of tragedy and despair. George and Martha’s inhuman bitterness toward one another is provoked by the enormous personal sadness that they have pledged to keep to themselves: a secret that has seemingly been the foundation for their relationship. In the end, the mystery in which the distressed George and Martha have taken refuge is exposed, finally revealing the degrading mess they have made of their lives.

General Audition Guidelines
Village Players of Fort Thomas generally holds auditions between 4-6 months prior to the production dates. Auditions are always "open", meaning that all roles are available, unless specifically requested by the director and approved by the board. Any pre-casting decisions will be disclosed in the audition announcement.
📅 Audition Dates:
There will usually be two different audition dates, sometimes followed by a callback date.
Directors will often accept video auditions if you're unable to attend the posted time(s).
📍 Location: most often, auditions are held at 8 North Center for the Arts (8 N. Fort Thomas Ave.)

✨ What to Prepare:
Some directors ask for a prepared monologue or song. Some will provide scene sides. Others will primarily work from cold readings from the script. Often it is possible to borrow a copy of the script to review. Headshots and resumes are appreciated, and you should definitely bring a list of conflicts from your schedule during the expected rehearsal time (generally two months leading up to the production dates)
