Program Details:

This summer program is a community engagement initiative of the Village Players and 8 North Center for the Arts. The director, Drue Harris (they/she) is a 12-year veteran theatre educator, currently teaching theatre at Hughes STEM High School in Cincinnati. The goal of this program is to provide an accessible and affordable summer opportunity for high school students, ages 14-18, interested in theatre. With a focus on theatre for young audiences, students will explore the skills and nuances of this genre and will bring a live performance opportunity to a brand new theatre audience.

No experience is needed to participate. This student-centered program is education and community engagement driven. NextGen On Stage will offer training in acting and technical production, community engagement and outreach opportunities, and will culminate in a production of a Theatre for Young Audiences play. The fee to participate, including scripts and a program t-shirt, is $30. Scholarships are available for those facing financial hardship.

There are 25 spots available for this program on a first-come, first-served basis.

Through this production, students will explore the world of theatre for young audiences and learn the techniques and characteristics of this genre. In addition to work on this production, students will participate in 4 workshops taught by theatre artists and educators from across the city.
